desert winter

On our way back south to Phoenix, we made a stop in Sedona, which is known for its new age vortexes, psychics, wealthy adobe mansion owners and spectacular red rock vistas.

Here is a view of the trail we hiked to get to the Bell Rock vortex, a spot of desert with incredible upward flowing energy and some say, healing powers. But I've got to say, I started the hike with beginning symptoms of a cold and a heavy heart and after two hours exploring, when we came back, I was feeling quite jaunty.

and right south of Sedona is this awe-inspiring cliff dwelling known as Montezuma's Castle that's estimated to be as old as 700AD. It looks small in this photo, but up close it's really quite impressive. It was a beautiful day and we had a picnic of cheese and crackers by the river that's flowing just behind where this shot was taken.

adventures in self-publishing

Taken Down by Cody Rocko

This summer I visited NYC and ended up spending some time in Printed Matter in Chelsea. I had been thinking about self-publishing for a while but after seeing so many fantastic artist publications, I decided to do an experiment and try to put together a book myself. I used the ever-popular Blurb.com. It took a while but after compiling and laying out everything, I think the book came together nicely. It's almost 100 pages long!
I'm going to look into a more local or at least smaller publisher and see if I can't make a book that is less costly.

dream log

I dream every night, almost without fail. They're usually pretty wild. Many people have said to me, "you should write those down!" probably because it would mean I wouldn't have to talk about them so much if I were writing them down somewhere. Others have said, "you should illustrate them!" which to me seems like shooting down a bird in flight; bringing something to earth that doesn't really belong here.
But every once in a while I'll write down a particularly poignant dream. This particular one on this page is about inhabiting a body with someone else, a dead snake and a giant shark. I've also included a bit from the dream decoder.
